Installation Procedure
Installation is
really simple and easy if your are the least bit handy with tools
and it takes about 45 minutes to an hour for each average window.
There may be special situations that might take longer.
I wouldn’t expect to do all the windows in a typical house in one
day. Pick a couple of the easier windows to begin working on and
save the harder windows as you gain experience.
A
small flat area of at least 1-inch wide is necessary all around
the window to install the 3/4 inch wide extrusion against the window
frame. This installation method looks the best...but, other installation
methods are possible...such as, installing the retainer system on
the wall at the area indicated by the black arrows.
Building windows are manufactured in many varieties of shapes and
designs. It is impossible to cover all window types in this installation
guide. Therefore this guide will cover the most common type of window,
which is a rectangular window with jambs and a sill. This system
works best if installed on the interior window jambs next to
the window frame, using small nails and caulk to hold the extrusions
to the window jambs and sill.
An alternate method might be hot glue or screws on jambs such as
adobe or brick or installing the retainers on the wall around the
window if the jambs are not accessible. The nails must anchor in
something solid such as wood and not just plaster or drywall. Considerable
pressure is put on the retainer extrusion by the film shrinkage
and air pressure differential. The
best method is using small nails and caulk and this is the method
that will be demonstrated in the installation guide. This picture
shows the extrusion and film installed next to the window frame.
(Small blue arrow). The extrusion used in this example is white
and is barely visible.
